Factory Mutual Aprroval Code 6049 is the standard set forth to establish construction and performance standards for buildings used to store flammable and combustible liquids.
Our buildings are constructed in accordance with FM 6049, and all standard sizes bear the FM Approval Label.

Just like our standard Buildings, Our Fire Rated
Hazmat Storage Buildings come with a 6" deep
secondary containment sump to exceed the EPA
spill containment requirements as set forth in
40CFR 264.175. Heavy gauge forklift pockets
and Explosion Relief Panels are also standard
features. All of our buildings are designed in
accordance with OSHA and NFPA Code 30
requirements and all Standard Sizes are

What is Fire Rating? The term "fire rating" designates the ability of a constructed assembly to contain a fire in a carefully controlled test setting for a specified period of time. The degree that assemblies retard the spread of damaging heat is measured in intervals of time. For example, if a construction assembly in the controlled test setting adequately contains the heat for two hours and meets other requirements during the laboratory fire test, it is given a two-hour fire rating. We construct our Fire Rated Buildings using double wall construction, 3/4" gypsum paneling, and R-11 Insulation. See diagram below:
FIRE RATING REQUIREMENTS
2 Hour Fire Rating Required when a building containing flammables is located more than 10', but less than 75' away from another
structure or property line.
4 Hour Fire Rating Required when a building containing flammables is located less than 10' from another structure or property line. **No Fire Rating is required when a Hazmat Storage Building containing flammable liquids is located more than 75
feet away from another structure or property line.
